Applied Art editorial challange

Applied Arts is Canada’s premier magazine of visual communications. In 2011, it approached 10 art schools asking if they would assign the task to design a section of the magazine as a student contest. Five schools agreed to participate, and Emily Carr was one of them. We were given the task in class as one of the term projects. I initially wanted to keep the pages clean and blank, so to highlight the typographical treatments. The concept is direction and flow. Because Applied Arts is not just a displaying agent for Canadian designers, the magazine also showcases the future possibilities of creative minds. Not only I focus on using typography to create the feeling of flows, I also leave three empty boxes at the portfolio section (the last section: Raring to Go) to indicate the idea that there will always be more and more awesom designs being created.
